I've wanted to get into clozemaster because so many people swear by it but I haven't been able to.

Thank you for reminding me of journaly! I may put my journal entries on there for correction since I've decided I'm not interested in correcting them myself. 😅

Yeah, I would totally set up a Journaly account if I were you and befriend a few native French speakers learning English!

I want to love Clozemaster but I wish their multiple choice selections weren't so easy to guess sometimes! Typing the answers in feels more worthwhile even if it takes a lot of time.

I've used Journaly since it first came out but forgot about it since starting to learn French.

I do agree that the typing options on Clozemaster helps it feel more challenging.

While my overall experience with ITalki was quite positive (had found great tutors both for Spanish and Turkish), there's some part of me that's against the platform because of the "uberization" aspect -- every tutor becomes potentially disposable, folk compete on price, have to fret over their reputation, and so on.

I'm glad that you've had an enjoyable experience with the platform! I guess I am very specific about what I want in private lessons that I possibly put more work on the teachers. Maybe when I finally learn Spanish I'll have better luck.

I know exactly what you mean about "uberization" and that's such a fitting way to put it. I heard that 4 stars is the equivalent of a 0 in iTalki because everyone keeps holding back on rating fairly for the sake of their reputation.
